Sturgeon City is a place where people come to help clean up Wilson Bay. The people here care very much about cleaning up Wilson Bay and would appreciate if you would come to the Science Institute so you can learn how to help Wilson Bay as much as you can. This camp is a week long action packed science camp. While I was here I learned how to be more respectful of the environment and its surroundings.

On the first day we went to the Land Application Lily Pond. At the Land Application Lily Pond we had to put on waders so we could walk in the pond without getting wet. While we were walking through the Lily Pond we kept stepping on roots and sinking into holes. When we were wading through the water we used seine nets to catch and look at the different types of animals. Some of the animals we found were fish, frogs, dragon flies, turtles, spiders, beetles, butterflies, bream and craw fish. The Lily Pond also had a couple of different types of plant life. The plant life was willow trees, alligator weeds, black pine trees, and brush.

On the second day we went to the Intra-coastal waterway and used the seine net again. At the Intra-coastal waterway we went waded into the water but this time, we didn’t have to put on waders. We didn’t have to put on the waders because we went out into the water past our waist. If we had the waders on they would have filled with water and it would be a lot harder to walk around. In the Inter-coastal waterway there was comb jelly, which do not sting, white shrimp, spiny oyster, pin fish, pipe fish, sea snails, flounder, and bay anchovies. I enjoyed going to the Inter-coastal waterway because it was fun to see and learn about the different types of animal life. While we were at the waterway we noticed that the trees were shorter than anywhere else that we have been. The trees are shorter because they have adapted to stay short so that when a hurricane hits they will stay rooted and be blown away.

On the third day we looked at the anatomy of various types of aquatic animals. We got to look at the inside of a squid and learn what all the different parts of the squid meant.
